MEETING TO ADVANCE SUSTAINABLE LIVESTOCK STRATEGIES
On June 12th and 13th, 2025, the partners of the NUTRITIVE European project gathered in Turin, Italy, for a two-day meeting aimed at reviewing technical progress, sharing results, and planning the upcoming steps for the next six months.
The event took place at the Starhotels Majestic and included working sessions dedicated to active work packages (WP1–WP6). The agenda also featured informal networking opportunities among project partners.
NUTRITIVE EVENT
A MULTI-STAKEHOLDER DIALOGUE ON MANURE MANAGEMENT
In addition to technical meetings, the consortium hosted the second NUTRITIVE EVENT, a public outreach session aligned with the project’s dissemination strategy. These events are designed to foster exchanges with relevant actors across Europe by sharing project insights and opening discussion on sectoral challenges.
Held on the afternoon of June 12th, the session focused on livestock manure management in intensive systems, with a particular emphasis on the value of digestate as a circular economy resource.
The event opened with a presentation by Leticia Regueiro and Lucía Argiz from Medrar, who outlined the project’s context, goals, and methodology. The programme was divided into two thematic sessions:
(1) Livestock Manure Management in Northern Italy
- Andrea Chiabrando, Technical Director at STA Engineering, provided an overview of agricultural systems in Northern Italy and associated environmental challenges.
- Monica Bassanino, Environmental Officer from the Piedmont Region, presented current practices and policy frameworks for manure handling.
- Elio Dinuccio, Associate Professor at the University of Turin, discussed the role of digestate as a key output in circular agricultural systems.
(2) Regional Strategies and Field Experience
- Luca Zucchelli, from the Lombardy Region, introduced public policies and regional strategies aimed at sustainable livestock production.
- Gabriele Boccasile, former regional policy officer, addressed the key obstacles in improving waste management practices.
- Federico Camisassi, partner at La Gaia S.S. farm, shared his experience integrating dairy farming, crop production, and renewable energy generation via a biogas plant.
